Word Count Tool

Radio Station Interns and Personnel Tools

When it comes to writing compelling radio commercials, you need to remember to pace yourself.

Too many words in your script will have a negative impact on our listeners.Your commercial may need to be digitally edited to speed up your delivery so it fits within 30 seconds. This sounds unnatural and people are going to have a hard time connecting with you and remembering your message.

Many times, we receive scripts that have too many different ideas in them: a grocery list of what you can offer potential customers. In cases like this, I will recommend that we create separate commercials for each of the products or services that you are promoting, so each message is given a chance to stand on its own and connect with listeners.

A good rule of thumb is 70-75 words for a 30 second commercial. Please use the template below to adjust the word count this is what we use to write commercials and I would be more than glad to share it with all our interns and operations personnel.
