EbGb

The artist best known as EbGb is a complex and somewhat ambiguous character. In this industry where all major players have a story, a proverbial hook to legitimize their words, EbGb never took the time to explain. Yet there’s something so compelling about his music that numerous writers have attempted anyway, often bridging the gaps with their own assumptions or pure fiction. A quick Google search generates page after page of hits, but none answer the most important questions: who exactly is EbGb – the man and the artist?

EbGb was born Ernie Bordon III 1985 in New Jersey. He lived in New York, but spent the majority of his life in SW Florida. Eb always loved to write, and discovered a new talent when he started composing raps with friends in middle school. Rather than a troubled childhood or pushing drugs in the streets to survive, Eb has always been innately driven by a pure love of music. Fascinated by the endless possibilities of sound, it was never about being famous or making a million dollars. Music made him happy when he was sad. Amped when he was bored. Awake when he was tired. It was a vehicle for expression not offered elsewhere in his world.

Eb began building his catalog two years later while attending high school in Naples, Florida. His CDs started generating local buzz, but Eb was still completely immersed in the creative process. The self described “nomad writer” released his first official solo 19 track album, The Phantom of the Anthems, in 2004 and sold copies out of his car all over Florida. People started paying attention.

“Eb is one of those special artists that come along only every once in a while. He is someone who I know will be successful. There is such a powerful message in his writing." –Tony Catania

His next compilation, Circling the Drain, was released in September 2009 to a much larger and more attentive audience. For the next five years, EbGb rode the momentum, performing alongside well known artists such as Bone Thugs n Harmony, Pitbull, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang, Obie Trice, Wiz Khalifa, Nas, and Jedi Mind Tricks, to name a few.

Fast forward to the present – it’s 2012 and EbGb’s highly anticipated new album, The Black Light District, is in the works. After spending the last year headlining local shows, a nationwide tour kicks off soon, accompanied by other promotional activities. Eb now with HeadZoo Prod. in Bonita Springs, Florida, is flanked by industry professionals who want him to succeed. But what’s his story? The Black Light District offers new insights to an artist whose identity can’t be confined to a label or neatly summarized in one page. It’s the first of many looks into the world that is EbGb... all the good, the bad and the ugly broke down and rolled up neatly for your enjoyment.
